7 Steps to Get Your Car Summer Ready

Spring is here! With the improving weather people will be taking more road trips and ultimately spending a lot more time in the car. Being prepared for your trip is important but just as important is the maintenance of your car. The maintenance of your car is probably not your first priority when planning your next trip, but it will quickly jump the ranks when you’re broken down on the side of the road.

Take an afternoon and spend some time on simple car maintenance. You will thank yourself.


Radiator Flush: Radiator coolant doesn’t last forever and over time if breaks down a starts to erode the inside of the radiator. This can lead to radiator problems and eventually repair. A radiator flush is a cheap way to ensure against radiator repairs.

Replace the air filter: Your air filter should be replaced twice a year so this is the perfect time to get it done.

Check the tires: After winter driving the tread on your tires may not be adequate for spring and summer driving. Check the tread depth on your tires and also the tire pressure to be sure the tires are good enough for your next road trip.

Replace the windshield wipers: Winter weather takes its toll on windshield wipers, making them close to unusable if you are caught in a summer rain storm. Change them now and be worry for this season.

Inspect the brakes: Bad brakes are nothing to mess with. It is important to check your brakes at least twice a year. Check your brake fluid while you’re at it.

Check the battery: During winter corrosion is likely to build up on the battery. Check the battery posts and cable to ensure you will have no problems.

Check the headlights: You don’t always notice when a bulb burns out. While you are doing the rest of the maintenance on the car, take this opportunity to check that you don’t have a bulb out.
